1. Some like it hot
Starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.
Voted No. 1 on AFI’s list of 100 Laughing Years, Curtis and Lemon may not have been the first to dress up in drag to get out of trouble, but they sure were the funniest. The final scene is a classic, and Jack Lemon finally tells Joe E. Brown that he’s a guy to which Joe replies “Nobody’s perfect.”
2. Airplane
Starring: Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, Lorna Patterson. The most memorable lines in the movie are when Leslie Nielsen says “Please don’t call me Shirley” but the funniest he says comes after someone says “Hospital, what is she?” To which he replied “It’s a big building with patients, but it’s not important at the moment.”
3. When Harry met Sally
Starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are sitting in a restaurant and Meg starts faking an orgasm, then a woman played by Billy Crystal’s mother says “I’ll get what you get”.
4. Producers
Starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. When the producers oversell their stake in their production, they decide to sabotage it by doing a number about Hitler. Unfortunately for them, “Springtime for Hitler” becomes a huge hit.
5. Planes, trains and automobiles
Starring John Candy and Steve Martin. Steve Martin wants to spend Thanksgiving with his family, but bad luck continues to haunt him. Just when things aren’t getting any worse, he meets a talkative mouth played by Candy and the two continue to have bad luck until they arrive at Steve Martin’s house.
6. Ghostbusters
Starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, and Ernie Hudson. “Who are you going to call? Ghostbusters.”
7. Tommy Boy
Starring Chris Farley and David Spade. Tommy Boy goes on a road trip to save his father’s company. Classic buddy comedy.
8. Groundhog Day
Starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell. What could be funnier than having to relive the same day over and over again. He probably made Andie MacDowell fall in love with you every single day.
9. Arthur
Stars Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. This is Dudley Moore at his funniest. Arthur is wealthy and drunk, but willing to give up everything for love. “When you’re stuck between the moon and New York City, the best thing you can do is fall in love,” Arthur’s theme. Christopher Cross.
10. Trading places
Starring Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, Ralph Bellamy, and Don Ameche. When Randolph and Mortimer Duke make a bet on Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, Eddie gets good at Duke and Duke, that is until he and Aykroyd team up to get revenge on the Dukes.
