If you’re a fan of movies based on real life stories, then not only is Puncture real, but it’s very hard to believe that something like this could go on in America. Basically, the movie details a scam that happened on every American citizen, forcing all of us to pay more medical bills because of it.
In the early 1990s, inventor Jeffrey Dancourt created a new type of syringe. It prevented doctors and nurses who gave injections to patients, from accidentally falling into the needle. This was very important at the time, because it was the height of HIV and AIDS phobia, which was sweeping the world.
Doctors and nurses who tried the device liked it so much they wanted to use it. The National Institute of Health even gave the inventor a grant to help improve it. But when he tried to sell them to hospitals, he couldn’t even get his foot in the door.
He soon discovered an unethical business empire called Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), which forbade any products from being offered to hospitals that were not from the companies they represented.
That’s when he turned to the lawyer, Michael Weiss played by Chris Evans, and Paul Danziger played by Mark Cassin, who is one of the casting directors. Chris Evans is also the star of the upcoming Captain America movie.
In the film, Michael Weiss portrays a drug-obsessed cocaine maniac, who is tireless in his pursuit of justice in the case. Although many parts of the legal case are researched thoroughly and thoroughly, the dialogue between the lawyers and their relationship is left to the discretion of the writer, directors, and producers.
In the film’s hole, another lawyer, Paul Danziger, is almost the exact opposite of his partner. He is a very organized individual, who does not agree with many of Michael Weiss’ personal habits.
Screenwriter Chris Lupata did a great job mixing the lawsuit, which was real, with a sometimes fictional story about the lawyers’ lives. If you are one of those who enjoy seeing the injustices exposed by the little man, there is no doubt that you will really appreciate this movie.
It will be up to the viewer whether Puncture does justice to the real-life lawsuit. However, if you enjoy the legal genres of movies, where there is high drama both inside and outside the courtroom, then this is a must-watch. It’s doubtful, given the nature of the material, that it’ll win any Academy Awards anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean the movie isn’t a very suspenseful and exciting movie. This movie is perfect for the fan who enjoys seeing the conflicting characters maintain their working relationship, despite being put through very difficult and stressful situations.
